Suggest Remedy For Severe Fatigue Post Mastectomy In An Elderly Person

65 yr caucasian woman with history of breast cancer with mastectomy no radiation but this was many years ago now c/o swollen axillary lymph nodes with normal labs. She c/o fatigue and not feeling well . She also says she has a sore on hand on same side as nodes that hasnt healed. I am asking for a friend and do not have more history than this. her pcp put her on antibiotics which did nothing. What causes other than cancer recurrence might cause this? could a cyst be there with normal cbc? Would cat scratch disease have swollen nodes in armpit and normal labs?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for writing to HCM.
I understand your concern.
Experiencing severe fatigue following major surgery for cancer in an elderly woman could be mainly due to anaemia and protein deficiency caused due to blood loss.
Gradually, her general condition needs to be improved by proper diet. She would require iron and protein supplementation in addition.
Recurrence or spread of such cancer can be predicted by the presence of certain symptoms.
It needs to be confirmed by means of investigations.
Hence, kindly do regular follow-up as advised.
She would also require a lot of moral support during this period.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
