Suggest Remedy For Sciatic Nerve Pain

My sciatic nerve pain occurs only at night (between 3:00 and 4:00 AM) It lasts for only a short time after I get out of bed. There is not night pain when I spend the night in a recliner, but I m concerned that too much sitting, or reclining, will bring on other problems. I am 78 years old, with Lupus, and am in reasonably good health and active. I would appreciate your comments. Thank You

Hi,

Anything that puts pressure on or irritates this nerve can cause pain that shoots down the back of one buttock or thigh. Pain may be made worse by prolonged sitting, standing up, coughing, sneezing, twisting, lifting, or straining.

Treatment for sciatic pain ranges from hot and cold packs and medications to exercises and complementary and alternative remedies.

You have not mentioned whether you are taking any painkiller but let me tell you that painkillers ranging from OTC NSAIDs to opioids may be required in sciatica pain.

Physical therapy will also help in moderate to severe pain. Pain may be made worse by prolonged sitting, standing up, coughing, sneezing, twisting, lifting, or straining. Treatment for sciatic pain ranges from hot and cold packs and medications to exercises and complementary and alternative remedies.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
