Suggest Remedy For Red Marks Due To Acne

I started using tazorac 0.01% about 4 months ago. My acne became much worse but as of a few days ago my skin is completely acne free. However my acne was replaced with red marks. The red marks are much better than the acne. I am applying the gel in a thin layer every night. Should I stop using the gel? Or cut down how many times a week I use it? I just want the redness to go away.

Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic

Most likely the redness is due to the topical product that you have been using.
This product contains tazarotene, which belongs to the class of topical retinoids.
Retinoids are very effective in controlling acne because of there comedolytic properties, however, they are irritants and can cause redness and skin peeling as side effects.
Tazarotene is the most irritant among all topical retinoids and is usually not advisable for use on face. Its primary use is in plaque psoriasis.
Adapalene and tretinoin are usually the ones that are used for acne because they are less irritant and therefore can be used on face.
I would suggest you seek another appointment with your dermatologist. Your dermatologist might replace tazarotene with one of the less irritant options like either Adapalene Or Tretinoin.
Another option is that you may use this product as a "short contact therapy" daily (just 2 hours every night) Or use it every alternate night.

Regards
