Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
have a reoccurring rash on back of left hand and now spread to right back of hand. Have used a 1% hydricordozone ointment and goes away. After about a week it returns and the itching returns. sometime it goes away for a week or two but returns.Tried a Benadryl spray this time without any positive results. No lesions break the skin but have pronounced bumps that return with itching. I am a farmer and used protective gloves when handling chemicals.....most of the time.
Application of steroid ointment as well as intake of benadryl will temporarily reduce the sensation of itching, but the symptoms will be persist till the underlying causative agent is removed The rash in your hand can be either due to contact dermatitis or fungal infection (Tinea) in that region.
Management includes: 1. Keeping the area dry & avoid too much exposure to water or sweat formation. 2. Antihistamine preparations like cetirizine to reduce the itching sensation & provide symptomatic relief. 3. Application of topical antifungal cream like Clotrimazole or Miconazole to tackle the causative organism. 4. Topical antibiotics to prevent secondary bacterial infections.
If symptoms still persist or aggravate further, then it will be better to consult a Dermatologist & get a proper examination done to find out the actual cause. So that appropriate management steps could be taken.
Wishing you a Good Health. Take care.
