HI I WAS GIVEN A PRESCRIPTION FOR ECONAZOLE NITRATE FOR A FUNGUS RASH, ON MY NECK, CHEST AND ARMS. THAT CREAM WORKED EXCEPTIONALLY WELL. IT NOW APPEARS TO BE RETURNING AFTER A YEAR, CURRENTLY UNEMPLOYED. IS THERE A OVER THE COUNTER TOPICAL I CAN BUY THAT WOULD WORK?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your case history, you are having a fungal infection called as Tinea corporis. My treatment advice is:
1. Maintain good hygiene and bath twice daily.
2. Apply an antifungal cream like Clotrimazole cream twice daily on it.
3. Take an antihistamine medication like Levocetirizine twice daily for 7 to 10 days.
4. Other treatment options are oral Fluconazole, Itraconazole, and Terbinafine are taken only after consulting a dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harshit Bhachech
