Suggest Remedy For Rash On Feet, Ankles And Thighs

Hi Dr. Rynne! I m inquiring for my son s girlfriend. Yesterday she came to my house with a rash on her feet, ankles, and thighs. I let her treat them with witch hazel and calamine lotion, and advised her to take a bath in Aveno oatmeal to relieve the itching. The treatment did help in that regard. She has not gotten the Aveno yet, but today she was both dizzy and nauseous, but the rash is no worse. She went to a doctor yesterday and and urgent care today. The doctor yesterday had no idea what caused the rash and advised her to see a dermatologist. She has no fever. The doctor at the care center prescribed meclizine and zofran. The question is--what should she do next? Doctor? Hospital? My son is staying home from work tomorrow to keep an eye on her.

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hi.
As per your case history the patient is having fungal infection called as tinea corporis.
My treatment advice is -
1. Maintain good hygiene and bath twice daily.
2. Apply an antifungal cream like clotrimazole cream twice daily on it.
3. Take an antihistamine medication like levocetrizine twice daily for 7-10 days.
4. Other treatment options are oral fluconazole, itraconazole and terbinafine taken only after consulting a dermatologist.

Thanks.
Dr. Harshit bhachech.
MBBS, DDVL.
