Hi, I am 13 weeks and one day pregnant and in my last visit they told me that I might be at risk of having a baby with down syndrome. You see the thing is they had the weeks calculated wrong and now they are making me believe everything is fine although there was not a 2nd test done I had an ultrasound and now the baby's heart apparently has a black spot around or by the heart. I have been so stressed out trying to figure things out, Im only 22 years old and this is not how I expected my pregnancy turn out. I need to find out what I can do to search for abortions clinics or to continue my pregnancy with a normal child.
Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Serum screening for Downs syndrome should be done according to the gestation age and if the weeks of pregnancy are calculated wrongly, then the result of the serum screening comes wrong. Moreover, the black spot around the fetal heart can be due to echogenic intracardiac foci. It can be present in chromosomal anomalies, structural heart disease or can be idiopathic( no cause found) . I would suggest you to consult a fetal medicine specialist so that a detailed anomaly ultrasound can be done at 18-20 weeks of pregnancy to rule out any congenital anomalies and further management should be done accordingly.
