I had an ultrasound at 12 weeks (date based on assumed last period - not definite dating). Dating was the reason for the ultrasound. The report says I have a collapsed intrauterine gestational sac with fetal remnants in the sac. Crown rump length 2.8 cm. no heart rate identified. I want to be sure this is a blighted ovum - as I have yet to experience any bleeding or cramps. My doc recommends d&c. I would feel better if I could find some info to support that there is no chance if a misdiagnosis. But can't find anything - given that my dates may not be accurate... Help? Thought based on what the report reads?
Hello i understand what you are going through and i know it is really a trial period.
If the findings obtained in ultrasonography are correct then it is certain that you have a missed abortion. At 12weeks of gestation, the crown rump length ought to be twice the value obtained in your case. Also, at 12 weeks, fetal cardiac activity can't be missed out. Also, fetal parts starts disfiguring and it is not a diagnosis to missed out.
Uterine evacuation is the method of management. It could be medically with prostaglandins or done by D and C.
Hope this helps. If you have more query, i will be glad to help. Best regards Dr Achuo
