Suggest Remedy For Persistent Diarrhea

Hello. I am a 17 year-old girl having problems with persistent diarrhea and I d like to know what I need to do to stop it. It s been a week now. It started last weekend with painful cramps and watery stools every hour and a half, and I was bedridden all week because of my lack of strength. I almost completely lost my appetite because of the issue. Later in the week, I started seeing blood and mucus in my stool. I tried taking Imodium with no results. Now I m taking a probiotic supplement (Culturelle) daily and I m no longer seeing blood in my stool and the cramping is less frequent, but I do still have painful gas cramps and frequent bowel movements. These bowel movements are less watery than before, but I still can t pass a normal bowel movement. Please let me know what I should do next. Waiting it out hasn t worked.

Hi thanks for asking a question.
I can understand your concern.
1.First you might have severe gastroenteritis that can lead bleed in stool.Get your stool examined if it shows pus cells and bacteria then shigella dysentery like bacterial cause might be there. Tinnidazole and broad spectrum ofloxacine like antibiotic needed.

2.second you might have severe colitis by inflammatory or clostridia, vibrio or salmonella like bacterial infection.stool culture might be useful for it and treated accordingly.

3.Sometime there might be severe parasite infection might be the cause like amebic dysentery or giardiasis.stool examination helpful for it.

4.If still no benefit ultrasound examination done to work up further.still further endoscopy examination may be needed that might reveal inflammatory bowel disease or other cause like ulcer in git tract.

Meanwhile take prebiotics and maintain hydration by drinking adequate water.
Avoid spicy food.avoid smoking.
Take semisolid food for few days.
Take more fruit juice.

Wish you good health.
