Suggest Remedy For Pain Near The Rib Cage

so over that last two months i ve been having some discomfort on the left side of my abdomen (just below the rib cage). in the last two weeks it has been getting worse and increasingly difficult to run. I have also notice that the bottom of my rib cage on my left protrudes out further than the bottom of my rib cage on the right. The only way i can think to describe the resulting sensation is it feels like my organs are being crammed into a tightly fitted enclosure at the bottom of my ribs. Have any ideas as to what this may be a result of, or have any suggestions on what I should i do?

Hello,

You are experiencing pain in the left side, just below the rib cage. Your symptoms may be indicative of kidney stones or infection, splenic rupture, enlarged or ruptured spleen and splenic infarct, pancreatitis, IBS, broken or bruised ribs, costochondritis, gastritis, etc.

You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP, get required blood tests, urinalysis, ultrasound, CT, X-ray, endoscopy done to detect the pathology causing you symptoms. You will be treated accordingly. In the meantime, you should lose weight if obese, do regular walking and exercises, take proton pump inhibitors for relieve from gastritis or acidity.

You can take Combiflam, one SOS after food to reduce pain and soreness on the left side. Bruised ribs will likely heal with rest, as will broken ribs, if there are no complications. In rare cases, you may need surgery. If a kidney stone is too large to pass through your body on its own, your treating doctor will recommend removal by surgery. Stay away from addictions if any. Avoid lifting heavy weight & do not do any heavy work.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
