Suggest Remedy For Pain In Lower Back And Discomfort On Left Side

I was told I have an inflamed colon, the medicine prescribe was asacol hd 800 mg( mesalamine) twice a day take three pills after several days of taking this medication, I began having side affect. then steroids was prescribe to correct the problem- methylpred. 4mg dosepak(substitution for Medrol dosepak 4mg) The side affects have cleared . the problem is my lower back especially the left side continue to hurt until I have a bowel movement. I still feel discomfort on the left side. it appears nothing has been solved.

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history of known problem of an inflamed colon for which you were prescribed Asacol/Mesalamine 800 twice daily but you took 3 pills and got an allergy responding well to Methylpred 4mg. Now there is pain in the lower back particularly to the left until passage of bowel movement.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Colonoscopy.
CT scan of the abdomen to see whether there is associated problem in the colon like diverticulitis or so.
You may then require altered dosage or altered medication as per the cause thus found.
Also get stool test done for three consecutive days and tests of urine and blood.
