My boyfriend was cleaning a restaraunt grill today and hot grease popped up into his eye. he is now in severe pain, the eye is really red and the lids show obvious edema. he went to urgent care and got perscribed some drops, but he is still in excruciating pain... should i be worried?
The best thing you should always do in these kind of situation is wash eyes with running cold tap water, lots of water for 20-30 minutes. That's the best treatment especially if you cannot reach urgent care within 10-15mins(contact time with irritant in eye), immediate eye wash with plenty of cold water at home can prevent maximum damage. Well you are treated in urgent care and prescribed drops , urgent care is given. I suggest you to visit Ophthalmologist to rule out retained particles( they cause persistent excruciating pain) and to assess extent of tissue damage under microscope(invisible to naked eye). Minimal tissue damage confirmed, you don't need worry. If there is corneal damage or extensive ocular surface burns , he needs planned regular treatment from ophthalmologist.
Hope i have cleared your worry. Regards
