Hi,

This could be due to the following reasons:
1] A new infection in the throat
2] The side effects of medication, especially reflux acidity
3] Some undiagnosed problem (phobia of cancer is a real problem!)

Since it's just a discomfort, I suggest you do not panic and instead learn to relax. Drink plenty of water and follow a healthy diet with no smoking or alcohol. Gargle with warm salt water twice a day after meals, and practice steam inhalation twice a day before major meals. Do NOT continuously cough in order to clear your throat. Avoid lying down flat after a meal. If you wish to rest, maintain a semi-reclining position with good head and neck support.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Jayita Poduval, ENT Specialist
