Suggest Remedy For Lower Back Pain After Starting Acyclovir

Hi I am a 23 year old female and i just started acyclovir with 800 mg five times per day for shingles infection in my l2 nerve region. I have been on treatment for around 48 hours and have just started to have acute lower back pain - is crystalline nephrotoxicity a possibility and should I seek medical attention right away?

Yes it is possible definitely if there are other urinary issues too there after the start of Acyclovir. The main issue is lower back pain. Others may be:-
Change in the volume of urine, usually it gets less than usual.
Unexplained weakness.


You definitely need to talk back to your treating physician for prompt help as the symptoms you have are clearly due to the Acyclovir adverse effects that are serious. Rest of the management goes according to the evaluation in-person.
