Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mother has had a high pulse rate, 100-125, for several days now and has an appointment scheduled for Next Tuesday, she is also very nauseous and refusing to drink or eat much saying it only makes her sicker feeling. Is the nausea and the high pulse rate related? I am also concerned about her becoming dehydrated. She is 80 and also diabetic.
1. As she is a known diabetic, check with her blood sugar level, since hyperglycemia can cause rapid heart rate with nausea
2. If this is the underlying factor then high blood sugar will cause increased urination and that too along with refusing to drink can lead to dehydration and diabetic coma. [HHNK: hyperglycemic hyperosmolar non ketotic coma]
3. Check with serum T3,T4,TSH, EKG and Holter monitor test to exclude Arrhythmia 4. If refusing to take Oral [liquid diet], it is best to visit an emergency room for Hospitalization and intravenous management
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
