Surgery is indicated only if you are having Numbness or radiating pain down the leg because of the nerve root compression. Disc surgery is not a majoy surgery and you should be discharged a day or two after surgery. You don't need to wait too long for the surgery once the surgeon decides to do so.
Disc herniation can be treated in different ways like microscopic dissectomy, ozone therapy etc.,Kindly discuss with your neurosurgeon for the best possible and minimally invasive treatment.
