Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, My dad is a 74 yr old diabetic with dementia and prostate problems. We were recently in the ER with elevated glucose levels ( 500). He was discharged with a glucose level of 215 but upon his return home, the sugar kept rising. He is currently on metformin 500mg taken once daily. Yesterday I noticed that even though he s been taking his medication every day and his diet was being closely monitored, his sugar kept going up. He was previously on reclide MR 60 before he was admitted to the hospital for an unrelated issue. Out of desperation last night, I gave him the dosage of reclide even though he had gotten the metformin n the morning. I d like to know if its ok to continue with them both.
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. If you find that there is persistently high blood glucose levels and not coming under control, your dad needs admission in a hospital and glucose should be brought to control by using insulin under medical supervision and careful monitoring. Hence, it is better to visit Physician/Diabetologist and seek help in this regard. Kindly don't administer anti-diabetic drugs on your own. All the best.
