Hi!
Welcome to HCM!

Elevated levels of gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) alone or with elevated liver enzymes are highly indicative of liver disease with or without cirrhosis. Since you have been a heavy drinker for the last 5 years or so this is reflected in the form of suspected liver injury giving rise of elevated levels of GGT.

Over time, your GGT level will fall from whatever level it was at when you stopped drinking alcohol to within the normal range. This can take several weeks to more than a month. Abstaining from alcohol will decrease your chances of further damaging your liver and should allow your liver function to improve.

My dear take care of your precious health, avoid drinking alcohol as time again and again the scientists across the globe have proved that it virtually damages almost all the organs of the body in short period of time.

Take care of your health.
Best regards!

Hello doctor, I am 25y/o female and i had my laboratory test done SGOT and SGPT are normal (sgpt 20, sgot 20) but GGT is elevated (ggt 49). The rest blood chemistry redult are normal. I have read that it indicates the liver condition and it is due to some liver disease and other. I am not an alcoholic drinker, I took iron and vitamin c (not regularly) and food supliments. I am also taking analgesic sometimes. How do I get my ggt level to normal? Is this level of ggt pertains to a serious liver damage? Is this life threatening? Its freaking me out! :( Thanks doctor.

Just got back from the doctor blood test reveals that my GGT is 133 U/L ALT is 21U/L, AST is 23U/L and ALP is 88u/l. Total Bilirubin is 12. 2 previous tests 2 years ago my GGT was 87 and 2 months ago my GGT was 124. What could this mean? I don't know if this is related but every once in a while (2-3 months or more) I get a couple of days of pains in my right side right above the hip. It goes away after a 2-3 days.

Thanks
