Suggest Remedy For Diarrhea Post Intake Of Augmentin Tablet

I was given Augmentin 875 following a (minor) dog bite (trying to rescue my dog from pit bull attack). I am on day 4 of 7 day regimen. I have been experiencing minor diarrhea and a general feeling of queasiness, that comes and goes, a general lack of energy. Stop the Augmentin? See it through?

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your query AUGMENTIN is a penicillin based antibiotic containing amoxicillin and clauvulanate potassium and is used to treat bacterial infections.

Diarrhoea occurs as the antibiotics kills normal intestinal flora also along with harmful bacteria and disrupts the complex and delicate functioning of intestines..
Mild diarrhoea and queasiness are among common and less severe side effects of Augmentin tablet.
But muscle weakness if severe should be alarming and contact should be done to doctor..
If it is slight and not bothering it is fine..

As you told you have mild diarrhoea and general lack of energy i would suggest you to continue the dosage ONLY IF THE SYMPTOMS ARE NOT SEVERE..

Mild side effects go away after the medicine is withdrawn..

In case of mild symptoms you can take a low fibre diet.

Avoid dairy products,breads ,pastas etc..

You should take ample of water to keep yourself hydrated, juices, soups and oral rehydration salt dissolved in water to fulfil for water and electrolyte loss in diarrhoea..

You should immediately consult a doctor if you have more than 6 to 8 heavy volume watery stools with cramps and vomitings or severe muscle weakness.

Otherwise taking precautionary measures will relieve you..

No anti diarrhoea medicine should be taken without consulting with your doctor..

Hope you get well soon..

Thanks and regards..
