Suggest Remedy For Damaged Epiglottis Post Radiation Therapy
My husband underwent radiation therapy for squamous cell carcinoma of the right tonsil. He also did chemotherapy in 2009. He is cancer free. However, the radiation therapy affected his epiglottis, whereas he has trouble swallowing solid food. He is able to eat oatmeal, puddings and mashed up food etc. His swallowing study showed that a part of his epiglottis does not close properly when swallowing, He does get food stuck in his throat and he coughs it up. He does well on thicket. What are the chances of this getting worse? Right now he is dealing with the foods he can eat.

hello,thanks for your query, post radiotherapy swallowing problems are common in cancer patients. kindly have a visit with swallowing(speech) therapist, where he can teach the exercizes or different mechanisms of swallowing,where one can avoid regurgitation and cough.hope i have answered your query. all the best. take care.
