Psychiatrist 's  Response
There is no evidence of any effective ayurvedic medicine for bipolar disorder. In my practice, I come across patients who stop conventional medicines due to side effects or unsatisfactory response. Usually, they become worse after stopping medicines.
Rather than deciding to stop medicines, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor. There are several alternatives to sodium valproate, prolinate etc. One such alternative is Lithium which has been proved to be effective for bipolar disorder and has become a gold standard. Adjusting medicines properly, dealing with the side effects is an art and a science that is possible with proper doctor-patient partnership.
You should also check with your doctor whether you need some basic tests such as thyroid level etc that may affect your condition.
Again, in my opinion, it is not a wise to stop medicines without consulting your doctor and giving trial to other medicines that have proven track record.
I hope this answer is helpful.

Psychiatrist Dr. Shubham Mehta's  Response
Hello
Welcome to HCM.
Bipolar disorder usually requires life long treatment with mood stabilisers like valproate. If you are having side effects with the drugs you mentioned, change in drug treatment is advised and stopping the treatment. You should visit your psychiatrist and discuss with him about side effects, change of drugs or doses.
I would advise against ayurvedic treatment for bipolar disorder.
Hope this helps.
Thanks
