Suggest Remedy For Alcohol De Addiction

Hi!
One of my friends (52 yrs) having two daughters is a hard alcoholic. His drinking habits are already out of control which is affecting his family also. He thinks that there is only one life to enjoy, so he drinks daily. Agony is that after drinking he doesn't admit that he drinks. Can we do something to make him quit drinking without his knowledge

hi,
welcome to Health Care Magic and thank you for posting your query.
I understand your concern.
Alcohol de-addiction is a long term process and its always best if the person is motivated from within to give up the habit.
Well, for the start you can consider counselling the person and try taking him to the de-addiction centres in your city.
But to make him give up the habit without his knowledge is not quite practical, because the drugs we prescribe to overcome the alcohol addiction can have side effects which are caused due to the withdrawal of alcohol .
So its always good if the patient is aware of what he is getting himself into and also about the withdrawal symptoms he will be facing.
Now-a-days its not hard to find these de-addicition centres who will encourage the patient and help him quit alcohol by explaining to him the ill-effects of it.

Well a few things to keep in mind about alcohol de-addiction is that it should be quit gradually over a period of time, by reducing the amount taken everyday.
once the patient makes his mind to quit , he should be motivated and appreciated for his efforts and one should keep a check on him to prevent him from reverting back to his habit.

During this period the patient may face a lot of withdrawal symptoms like tremors , anxiety, nervousness, vomitting, confused state, hallucinations and many more. Seek the help of a physician and psychiatrist to help you through the process.
A few drugs like naltrexone , disulfiram, and acamprosate are prescribed to help a patient with alcohol addiction issues. Its best to take the opinion of a physician to help you with this.
Hope this helps and answers your query satisfactorily.
Do write back to me if you need further assistance , hope you get successfull in making the person quit alcohol.
Good luck , and wishing him good health.
Take care.
