Suggest Remedy For Acne In Face

Hi, im a twelve yr old girl. I have been suffering from pimples since I was 10 in a half I'm 12 now and it has turned into really bad acne especially on my forehead. The breakouts are worser and much worser everytime. I've mentioned it to my doctor but she keeps recommending a Benzoil Peroxide Gel which only burns my skin and looks like it makes it worser. We've asked her to recommend us to a dermatologist, but says acne is normal for my age because of puberty. Is there anything u can recommend for me to use to help clear my face? Any suggestions will greatly be appreciated. Thankyou, Desirai.

Hello. Thank you for writing to us at healthcaremagic

No doubt acne is common at your age. However, I feel that treatment is not apt to the severity of your acne.
Treatment is guided by the severity of acne. You may continue with topical benzoyl peroxide. If it is causing skin irritation, you may use it once daily or every alternate days on active acne.
Benzoyl peroxide is an excellent antibacterial, antiinflammatory and keratolytic topical antiacne treatment.
However, I also suggest you to use a topical retinoid e.g adapalene gel at night, over the whole affected area.
Topical retinoids are coemdolytic as well as antiinflammatory.
Therefore they not only treat existing acne but also prevent new acne formation.
Besides, if your acne is inflammatory i.e red, painful, pustular you may also be a candidate for Oral antibiotics i.e either doxycycline, azithromycin or minocycline.
I suggest you to seek an appointment with a dermatologist. Your dermatologist will be able to assess the severity of your acne and advice accordingly.
