Suggest Remedy For A Sore Palate And Dry Tongue

I have glaucoma in both eyes & recently changed meds five weeks ago - xalatan to xalacom - both eye drops.. ( The xalacom has beta blockers ) I am seeing my opthamologist again next week. Problem is I have such a sore pallet / mouth and dry tongue and not sure if my diet is causing this ? I drink heaps of small amounts of water all day but am still incredibly uncomfortable.. Three weeks ago, I had mouth ulcers & small blisters beneath the top lip and gum.. I used baby mouth gell to ease the pain.. any advise will be most welcome as I live on property out to town and only travel twice a week .. thanks Dee

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain sore palate and dry tongue can be due to change of your eye drops causing oral side effects and soreness of mouth can be secondary to dry mouth due to incomplete saliva in mouth..
You should consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated so that he can also look for other causes of the sore and dry mouth like Salivary gland disorders, oral infections like Thrush, stress, mouth breathing etc and treat you according to the cause..
As of now you take symptomatic treatment like sucking tart candies and chewing sugar fee chewing gums as it stimulate saliva flow..
Drink plenty of cool water and suck ice.
Artificial saliva drops are also available in the market and can be instilled in mouth for relief from dryness..
Avoid spicy food and maintain a proper oral hygiene to prevent secondary infections..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
