Hi..
Can understand your concern..
As per your complain a painful bump can occur due to a few reasons on the palate like:
In case if you have a bony hard lump which is persistent and does not go away it can be due to overgrowth of palatine bone and is known as Palatine torus and any trauma to the overlying mucosa can cause inflammation and irritation leading to pain..
Another cause can be due to trauma to the minor
salivary gland or their ducts leading to spillage of mucous into the soft tissues and appears as a lump and is known as a
MUCOCELE and irritation of lump can lead to pain..
In case if the lump is not in the centre of the roof of mouth and is near to any one side , an infected tooth can also lead to abscess formation and thus a lump is formed..
There can also be formation of infected cysts which can be painful..
In few cases a lump can be a sign of cancer but jumping on to cancer directly is not considerable..
I would suggest you to
consult a dentist and in case if it is due to palatine torus or mucocele surgical removal has to be done..
In case of
dental abscess root canal treatment or extraction is required to be done and in case the lump is large
incision and drainage to remove pus can help in faster healing..
For a tumour or cyst biopsy followed by treatment as per the diagnosis is done..
To relieve from pain you can take a painkiller like
Ibuprofen..
Hope this information helps..
