Suggest remedies for shortness of breath at night

I am constantly needing to take a deep breath/yawn. It gets worse at night when I lay down. I don't have chest pains but my chest gets sore from time to time from all the deep breathing. I am losing sleep at night because I have to sit straight up. What's the deal??

Shortness of breath when lying flat is concerning for problems with the heart, such as heart failure. You should be evaluated for this with an ultrasound (echocardiogram).
