Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi,

Very loud sounds may result in ear injury. Loss of hearing acuity and sometimes even dizziness may occur. An ENT specialist should be able to diagnose this disorder by conducting appropriate tests.

Hearing acuity may return to normal within hours or days but in most cases there is a permanent deficit with every exposure to a very loud sound. The treatment will depend on the final diagnosis, although the history seems to be explicit enough in your case.

Other disorders will have to be excluded. Various modalities have been employed for such cases but complete recovery would be difficult. Corticosteroids, hyberbaric oxygen, etc., are such modalities.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Panagiotis Zografakis,
