Suggest Remedies For Enlarged Papillae With Red Bumps Behind The Tongue

During this summer, I picked up smoking, I'd say about a pack and a half per week. Prior to that, I began smoking socially in April of 2014. I would smoke up to 1 pack in a single weekend every 1-2 months, with th3 summer months being fewer (to almost none).
Last Friday, I lost my voice at a concert. The next day, I noticed what I assume to be enlarged papillae as well as a couple of red bumps on the back of my tongue. In wondering if this is due to the laryngitis, or if my smoking has something to do with it?
I haven't smoked since, and I don't plan on it, bit I'm a bit paranoid that the red and white bumps are a sign of tongue or throat cancer.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of enlarged papillae with red bumps behind the tongue which seems to be due to transient lingual papillitis. These occur when papillae become irritated and slightly swollen. They occur due to various reasons like stress, smoking, hormonal changes and slight acidic and spicy food .

Need not to worry. Do warm saline rinses 2-3 times a day. Avoid smoking and intake of sharp and spicy food substances. If condition doesn't get better in few days then consult oral pathologist for proper checkup and rule out condition like herpes, canker sore and any malignant pathology. It generally doesn’t require treatment and clears up within two weeks. Drink plenty of fluids.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Hi.
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

As per your complain it seems that you have got Inflammation of the throat and mouth leading to Laryngitis that is inflammation of the vocal cords and also Apthous Ulcers or Canker Sores....

I would suggest you to first of all stop smoking and along with it you should also take supportive therapy to relieve the symptoms...

You should start doing warm saline gargles..
Take anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen..
You should gargle with numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine..
Suck throat lozenges..
Avoid spicy foods and take a soft and bland diet..
Drink plenty of water..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
