Suggest Remedies For Discoloration, Pain And Swelling In The Wrist Post A Shot

Two days ago I was to have a hernia operation and the nurses kept trying to find a vein. The last time they tried, they tried to put it into the underside of my wrist just below my hand. They hurt my wrist so bad it is now blue and stiff all the way to the inside of my elbow and my last two fingers are numb. Should I see about follow up care for this or just wait a little longer for the swelling to subside?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

You should consider being seen by your doctor for an assessment to rule out infection.

Though damage to the veins is a well known possible side effect of phlebotomy and any procedure can damage surrounding structures such as nerves, you should be assessed to take a look at the nerves and rule out infection.

Damage to surrounding structures usually resolves on its own within a few weeks but assessment would still be a good idea.

I hope this helps
