Hello,

Blocked nose is very common in children due to small nostrils and this can last for a long time and dose not indicate any serious condition. Especially in winter time this can be worse but if the child is active, playful and eating well there is nothing to worry and that is why the doctors are not giving any referral letters.
Regular use of nasal lavage with saline solutions 2-3 times a day might help thin the secretions and clean the nose.

Ears being blocked may happen after a viral infection and may last for months. Generally it is not recommended to use antibiotics one after the other but follow up in 2 months and if still there is water there behind the eardrums the doctor might decide to put a tube to drain the waters from the eardrum (tympanostomy).

I hope I have answered to your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
