Hello dear. thanks for trusting HealthCareMagic. I have understood your worries.
I have some questions for you. how old are you? are you well healthy or do have some immuno-compromised condition? what kind of antibiotic cream did you use and how many times a day you used it? is your cat vaccinated?
cat scratches can lead to infection, especially if it's accompanied with bites (80% chance to become infected). in someone who have immune disorder, it can trigger complication such as "cat scratch disease" which need more medical attention. cat scratch disease develops in case of
Bartonella infection, if the wound is not healing in 10 days, with following symptoms
high fever, nausea, chills, and swollen glands (lymph node). if these happen, you should have strong
oral antibiotics and contact your local doctor to get appropriate treatment.
what you feel like above are the symptoms after get scratched by cat: bleeding, swollen, pain, numb and difficult to move the area. in normal condition it will heal in few days. some tips for you if get scratch by cat:
1. rinse and wash the wound clearly, do not scrub roughly because it can make more infected.
2. push the bleeding gently with clean towel.
3. dry the wound with second clean towel.
4. cover the scratch wound: Deep wounds should be covered (or closed) using an adhesive bandage (a Band-Aid), a butterfly bandage, or clean gauze dressings.
5. apply a
triple antibiotic ointment such as
Neosporin can be used; these ointments contain neomycin, an antibiotic that is very effective in allowing cut injuries to heal, can be applied three times daily.
Bacitracin is a good alternative for anyone who has an allergy to neomycin. Oral antibiotics should not be necessary for a superficial scratch from a housecat.
6. watch for infection; Even if the scratch appears to be minor, keep an eye for the first couple of days. Check your temperature for any signs of fever, and concern for any indications of redness and inflammation. If the scratch doesn’t heal, or develops flu-like symptoms, a body rash or painful, swollen glands under the arms, it could mean the start of cat scratch disease. please meet your doctor soon.
how to prevent cat scratch:
1. Do not punish a cat for scratching you, it's a normal defensive behavior, and punishing a cat for scratching can lead to further aggression in the future.
2. Clip your cat’s claws.
3. Try not to play roughly or aggressively with your cat
4. Avoid playing with an angry or hungry cat, and also dirty outdoor cats.
I hope these can be useful for your
wound healing. feel free to ask me if there's another problem you want to discuss. I hope you'll get better soon. take care.
