Suggest Remedies For A Bruise On The Ankle Post Injury

I had a minor accident on my scooter last Friday. left leg lower calf bruised with wound along with ankle. I have rested for last 8 days. Swelling has diminished but still concerned. Reluctant to go to hospital as I am presently on unemployment...but obviously concerned. Do not think there is broken bone but my wife concerned about blood clot. Any thoughts?

Hi & Welcome.
For suspected bone injury you need to take an x-ray of the affected to rule out fracture which seems to be unlikely in your case.

If the swelling has not subsided completely it could be due to a hematoma (collection of blood in the soft tissue) which can be treated as follows:

1. Elevate the affected limb

2. Put ice packs wrapped in the cloth over the affected part for 5-10 minutes, few times a day for 1-2 days.

3. OTC painkillers like Ibuprofen with or without Serratiopeptidase to reduce pain and swelling

4. Thrombophobe Ointment to be applied over the affected area twice a day which helps in dissolving the clot (hematoma) if any.

5. Non bearing exercises to maintain full motion & prevent stiffness of the joint.

6. Avoiding smoking as it may delay the process of healing.

Hope the advice given above would be beneficial in preventing and treating the clot formation.
A feedback is appreciated.
