Dietitian & Nutritionist 's  Response
Your father sounds like he is poorly controlled. His diet now is going to be very complicated due to the kidney involvement. He will have to see a dietitian and have his diet tailored to his blood sugar trends, type of insulin he is on, the degree of kidney decompensation and complete access to all labs including GFR, Creatinine, blood sugar, HbA1C, total lipid profile. Prognosis for eye? Cataract, can it be removed? Macular degeneration ever treated and if not can it be treated - macular eye support vitamins will help if improvement possible. No one food will "cure" his disease, but a combination may help ease problems. Rub his legs with capsaican cream, made from hot peppers, it will numb the pain. Do you understand what has to happen now? Summary1)Make appt. with dietitian2)Bring all meds and lab results to appt., she will help with diet and special foods3) Vitamins for eye 4)special cream for nerve pain 5)obtain tests mentioned above if they haven't been done recently. Thank you for visiting HCM. Good luck with your dad.
