Suggest Possible Medication For Thyroid Problem

Hi, I have been tested of the last about 7 years for a thyroid problem.. One time is lower, then another it is ok. The last year it was test was two years ago (Nov. 2010) they told me i had a small goiter, and my thyroid count was a tad low (they mentioned something about Hashimotos Thyroiditis) They told me nothing i had was bad enough to treat. I am now very ill. I have an enlarged (swollen) thyroid - so said my Family Physician on Wed, im cold one hour (almost to the point of untolerable), then im sweating more than ever, I have body aches, very dry skin, my voice is very horse.. Any suggestion? Do you think this is thyroid related?

Hi,thank you for posting your query on health care magic.

Looking at your symptoms, you might be suffering from Hypothyroidism(decrease in thyroid hormone).

Hashimoto thyroiditis is part of the spectrum of autoimmune thyroid diseases (AITDs) and is characterized by the destruction of thyroid cells by body's own immune processes. It is characterised by Goitre(enlargement of thyroid gland) and hypothyroidism.

It is diagnosed by the presence of thyroid autoantibodies, namely anti-TPO and anti-Tg antibodies.Hypothyroidism is identified by doing blood test-T3,T4 and TSH(Thyroid Stimulating Hormone).
I would advise you to have the above mentioned tests.

The treatment of choice for Hashimoto thyroiditis (or hypothyroidism) is thyroid hormone replacement. The drug of choice is orally administered levothyroxine sodium, usually for life.

Hope this answers your question.Take care.
