I have sprained my right ankle numerous times over the past dozen years. I have had several sets of X-rays and MRI s. The ankle stays swollen with edema all the time. The swelling subsides a small amount with elevation for long periods of time. Walking is painful intermittently. Pain comes and goes, sometimes lasts for days, mostly for a few months. This period of pain is very intense. I also noticed that cold therapy helps numb the pain, heat seems to make it worse. There is also some heat radiating from my the middle of my foot up to the middle of my shin. The pain is located on the inside and outside mostly, with some pain in the front of my leg and foot occasionally. I have seen an ankle specialist and he diagnosed me with RSD without the typical pain associated. I feel this may be incorrect, so do other health professionals, but no one has an alternative diagnosis. I cannot turn my ankle in to put on laced shoes - too much pain. I also cannot sit cross legged for the same reason. I would appreciate a response. Thanks
