Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

As per your long term history and symptoms of frequent loose motions, you might be having irritable bowel syndrome which caused your excess bowel movements since your childhood.

The causes could be infection or stress or bacterial overgrowth in intestine.

You should undergo routine blood counts with ESR with stool examination (for routine micro, ova and cyst) with abdominal ultrasound and endoscopy if required.

Here,if I would have your treating physician,I will want to rule out inflammatory bowel disease like ulcerative colitis or chron's disease apart from irritable bowel syndrome.

There is no definitive treatment unless the actual is found out if we guess it is irritable bowels then unfortunately till date, there is no permanent cure for the problem and it's management relies on diet and lifestyle modifications along with certain medications.

A) Diet and Lifestyle Modifications in IBS like avoiding Pulses and Beans, food with high amounts of refined sugars will help.

B) Good stress management, Yoga and Acupuncture have all been used to help manage the symptoms of IBS with good results.

C) Medications in IBS like Loperamide (Brand Name: Eldoper) has been used in the management of IBS with diarrhea.

But it must be used with caution because the more you use it, the higher risk of getting an infection in your bowels.

If you must use it. Use only 1 or 2 tablets in a day and don't use more than Once or twice a month.

Antispasmodics like Mebeverine (Brand Name: COLOSPA) has also been used to regulate the bowel in IBS.

Lastly, Tricyclic Antidepressants (TCA's) like Amitryptalline have been shown in studies to help with IBS.

But those drugs can have many many side effects so they are not commonly used except when all else fails.

Consult gastro physician for further treatment.
