Hello dear, your friend is to be evaluated by professional like a psychiatrist about in detail of that dream and what he feels during daytime? He can be improved by counseling only.IF in any case his problem is somewhat severe that it requires medicine for few days , you or he should not worry as medicines are quite safe.Initially you can suggest him to have a cup of warm milk before going to bed, which can help him in good sleep.
