Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My baby and ring fingers are numb on my left hand. I have been taking Meloxicam since the beginning of May for inflammation. It seemed to be helping at first but then my fingers started getting and staying numb in the last month. When I hold a newspaper or book for any length of time my hands do get numb overall, but these two fingers do not get better at all lately. What type of doctor do you think I need to see?
Dear patient Little and ring finger is supplied by ulnar nerve and ulnar nerve compression may lead to numbness in that both fingers. So if numbness is only in this both fingers possibility of ulnar nerve compression is likely. But if numbness is involving all fingers of both hands likely cause is vitamin B12 deficiency. You should get tested for serum vitamin B12 levels. Visit reputed laboratory nearby you and get it done. If it's decreased you should get injection vitamin B12 1500 micrograms intramuscular on alternate days for 3 days and then weekly for one month. If it's normal you should visit neurophysician nearby you and get yourself examined. All the best.
