Suggest Medications For Strep Throat Infection With Excess Cough

Diagnosed with strep Sun before last - 10. days of penicillin. Throat and glands are fine, but I have an awful cough with much clear mucus - no runny nose. A doctor friend has advised me to get a chest x-ray tomorrow - nothing over the counter is helping. Very low grade fever all this time.

General & Family Physician Dr. Lekshmi Rita Venugopal's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for trusting HCM

The cough and runny nose raises the concern for possible bronchitis. Chest Xray is required to confirm the diagnosis. If confirmed, a bronchodilator like albuterol will help with the symptoms. Meanwhile, you can take cetirizine 10 mg once daily and an over the counter cough suppressant containing Dextromethorphan.

Hope this answers your question
