Suggest Medication To Lower Estrogen Levels

Alright my sister is on tamoxifen right now for her 5 year post breast cancer plan and her hormones levels of e2 have elevated to over 1k. The doctors don t suggest any aromitase inhibitors and she is premenopausal. Would letro or exemestane work in this instance to lower her estrogen levels or does it only work in post menopausal women?

Hi,

Hormonal therapy medicines treat hormone-receptor-positive breast cancers by lowering the amount of the hormone estrogen and the action of estrogen on breast cancer cells in the body.

The aromatase inhibitors Anastrozole and Letrozole are approved for this use in postmenopausal women. So, Letrozole is the right treatment to lower the estrogen level in your sister circumstances.

Anyway, my advice is to discuss carefully with her treating doctor about the right treatment and the follow up of your sister's condition.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Elona Xhardo,
