Suggest Medication For Vomiting And Dysentry

Age - 22 months

weight - 9 kg

She started vomating four days ago and had temperature running around 100 F. She was given antibiotics, after taking first dose itself she started dysentry. After medications, the fever is gone but today she again started vomiting (once) and liquid stool (3 times). Doctor has given her antibiotics but today she is looking very pale and she is not taking ORS/ Electral or water sufficiently. How to give her ORS liquid?

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood your concerns.
Since the child is 22 months and weighs 9 kg, it looks the baby has lost weight or is underweight.
If the baby is weighing less than before, surely dehydration is setting in and you should take the baby to the Pediatrician for review and be given intravenous antibiotics and fluids to maintain the hydration and electrolyte balance.
Babies are prone to fast dehydration even on a single large vomiting and/or loose stool.
It is a good sign that the fever has settled, probably meaning hte antibiotic is working well but the vomiting and loose stools can cause complications.
If the baby is refusing fluids or vomiting persistently it is best to give intravenous fluids and not to force ORS orally.
Also needed is proper dosages of probiotics.
