Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m a 19 year old female and I suffered from anorexia for a couple of years but have now made a full recovery (around 1 year 6 months ago). However, when I was ill I had an irregular heart rhythm and my pulse was under 60bpm, I was told this was because I had lost muscle but I would regain it as I put on weight. I m quite worried about my heart as sometimes I can feel it skipping a beat and speeding up and slowing down for no apparent reason (I know this can be normal), but also I get breathless quite easily and experience head rush. Is it worth going to my GP and what could be going on?
I can understand your concern.you was diagnosed with anorexia and now you are improving it's good . regarding your feeling of heartbeat some time fast some escape beat etc..This may be because of anorexia you are diagnosed with.as this causes some electrolyte imbalance . But it may be because of some primary pathology in heart as well.so I would like to suggest you that at least once you should consult your physician he can order some blood test such as hemoglobin level, electrolytes , thyroid profile etc.along with ecg that will record electrical activities of heart.if it is very troublesome and he finds need for Holter monitoring he can suggest this also..Holter will record electrical activities of your heart for 24 to 48 hrs as needed . In this way we can reach to exact diagnosis and accordingly treatment can be given.why I am emphasising to consult yr physician because some time there are very bad rhythm disturbances also. ..that need to be diagnosed and managed as soon as possible . Hope this will help.
