Suggest Medication For Severe Pain Due To Tooth Abscess

Relief for tooth abscess? Appointment in 3 days. Abscess occurred after allergic reaction to penicillin. Getting new antibiotics. Not smoking, I don't eat sweets and never have been a soda drinker. Not drinking tea or coffee either, just water. Keeping up on oral hygiene. Abscess tooth is a year old root canal that never was capped. Can barely open mouth.. Loss of appetite, hard time eating, and even talking. Constantly in pain and I just want relief from the swelling or pain until I go into the dentist in a few days.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC...

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you have re-infection in your root canal treated tooth that has led to pus formation below the root tips of the tooth and forming dental abscess..
It is however not due to allergic reaction but is due to infection..
As the symptoms seems to be severe it is a kind of dental emergency and only taking pain medicine will not relief the symptoms rather the infection can keep on worsening..
I would therefore suggest you to consult an Endodontist and get evaluated and get treatment done by either re-root canal treatment or extraction as per condition of tooth..
As of now you can take Ketorolac to relieve severe pain and alternate with Ibuprofen..
Do cool compresses over the cheek..
Injectable painkillers can also be taken for relief..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
