Hi Dr. Samuel
I was treated for burnout 18 months ago. I was hospitalised for 3 weeks and received psychiatric treatment, counselling and medication under 24 hour supervision.
I am doing much better and have realised that I needed to make lifestyle changes which I am and have been doing, but I am still suffering from insomnia.
We have recently immigrated from South Africa to Australia and I am not 100% satisfied with the treatment I have received. The GP instructed me stop taking Seroquel as he believed that it was the cause of a 109 U/L Gamma G.T. not replacing the drug with anything else. When I went back he prescribed Temazepam (10mg) which is not helping at all with the insomnia. Also, according to an article I have read one should not use the latter if you have liver problems or are being treated for depression.
I am taking Lexapro (20mg)/day for depression.
I am seeing a psychologist, eating healthy and exercising regularly.
I am also a migraine sufferer and not sleeping, is increasing my migraines and general headaches. Tension in my neck and shoulders are also increasing headaches.
My question is: What medication can I safely take for insomnia?
I believe that the insomnia is having a negative effect on my general health and wellbeing.
