Suggest Medication For High Fever And Ear Infection

My 10 year old daughter had a fever of 103.2 on Monday. She complained of a sore throat and upset stomach. I took her to a doctor who said she had all the symptoms of Strep, even though the quick test was negative(could be false negative). He put her on antibiotics. I continued to treat her with ibuprofen to keep the fever down, which began to rise to 104.2. No change occured since, except no sore throat and stomach ache, so I took her to her pediatrician today. He said it s not bacterial, but may be mono. He confirmed that she has an ear infection and took a blood workup. He advised me to continue the antibiotics, because she must complete it since starting it. She seems fine one minute and then sleep for a few hours the next. I m checking her temp every 3-4 hours and it s always up. I give her ibuprofen at 4 hours. I just took her temp and it s 104.4. I m concerned and wondering if I should take her to the ER. Please advise.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Can you share the blood report? Any ear ache is there? If fever is not coming down after 48-72 hours of starting antibiotics, and she is very drowsy or sleepy and not feeding, it is better to take her back to doctor. Even if this is mono or other viral illness, such a situation need symptomatic treatment with fluids and all.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
