Suggest Medication For Excess Cough

I was coughing excessivley to get rid of mucus in the back of my throat. I used my nose to bring up the mucus and I felt as if my tonsil had dropped like it was on the back of my tongue when I tried to get rid of the cough, not to mention that when I looked back into the mirror it looked like my tonsil had elongated?! I do not feel pain, there is no blood but it does feel weird/uncomfortable? Should I be concerned that I tore m tonsil/cause soem sort of irreversible damage?

Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your situation and problem.
By your history and description, possibility of Upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) is more.
You are having tonsillitis (inflammation and enlargement of tonsils).
So better to follow these steps for symptomatic relief.
1. Drink plenty of fluids orally and keep yourself hydrated.
2. Start antihistamines and anti inflammatory drugs.
3. Avoid oily and spicy food. Avoid junk food.
4. Avoid hard to chew food.
5. You may need broad spectrum antibiotic also.
You will mostly improve in 1 week with these treatment.
If not improving then consult doctor and get done chest x ray to rule out pneumonia.
Hope I have solved your query.
Wish you good health. Thanks.
