Suggest Medication For Constipation

I am 21 years old, have been constipated for over two weeks now, and so far nothing has been able to help. I have seen my regular doctor twice and been to the ER- receiving a slew of enemas and laxatives (dulcolax, miralax, mag citrate, mineral enemas, soap and water enemas, and 10 miralax in 64 oz. gatorade- a colonoscopy prep- on two separate occasions) and nothing has worked!! i eat a healthy vegetarian diet with lots of fiber, drink plenty of water, and i exercise almost daily. I can t figure out what caused this or how to fix it. Do you have any suggestions?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you are having symptoms of constipation. There can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like eating a lot of dairy products, irritable bowel syndrome, incomplete clearance of waste products, acidity and certain other systemic conditions. Need not to worry. For now drink lot of water , do light exercises and avoid fatty and heavy meals. I would suggest you to consult gastroenterologist for proper examination. Doctor may order colonoscopy or other tests to look for blockages in your colon , barium studies and blood test for hormonal changes. Doctor may prescribe fiber supplement psyllium, calcium polycarbophil. doctor may prescribe osmotic laxatives , stool softeners and medicine to reduce acidity.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
