Good Morning
Its sad to learn about the complaints of your dear mother at this point of time. Constipation is common in old age especially who are bed ridden. Its very important people to walk and move around and do proper exercises if possible to keep up a good bowel function. Along with a proper and healthy diet including good amount of fibre and water, its usually easy for a person to have regular bowel movements. One thing that is concerning about your mother is the pain that you are talking about. Please elaborate the site and degree of pain. I mean whether pain is in the anal region or in the stomach and both of them need further investigation. Pain in the anal region along with constipation can be due to anal fissure or complicated hemorrhoids which needs to be addressed additionally. Similarly, stomach pain along with constipation needs to be investigated further with some investigations which may include colonoscopy. I would recommend certain basic investigations like abdominal X Ray, Stool tests including occult blood, per rectal examination with proctoscopic examination by a doctor. There are good medicines for constipation available in india of which the safest and easy ones are Syrup. Lactulose available with popular brand as duphalac (can take 30 -60 ml upto 2-3 times a day depending on requirement and bowel movement. Be aware of the sweet taste of this liquid)and powder Movicol or pegmove (1-2 pacs daily and can be increased to 4-6 pacs daily depending on the requirement)
PLEASE NOTE I HAVE NO FINANCIAL INTEREST INVOLVED WITH ANY OF THESE PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES
Wish a speedy recovery for your mother
Will be happy to answer any further questions in this regard
