I have been on 500mg of valacyclovir twice a day for 9 days today and see some improvement, but still cold sores continue to be sore and not healing as quickly as I had hoped, is there something stronger I can take for quicker results, cold sores are not normal for me,,not sure why this is happening,,I do havr Sjogrens Syndrome...could this be a reason?

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your case history of cold sores. My treatment advice is –

1. Don't scratch the lesion as it may worsen the condition.
2. Apply a mild antibiotic plus steroid cream like Fusiderm B cream.
3. Take an antihistamine medication like levocetirizine.

If the problem persists then consult a dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harshit Bhachech
