Hi - I ve been diagnosed with bipolar schizo-affective disorder...I ve been depressed, even attempted suicide but I haven t told my doctor because I m afraid he ll hospitalize me...what is the most effective anti-depressant I can ask him for? Please no weight gain side effects...

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

If with conventional antidepressants you are not getting improvement and the depressive symptoms are persisting despite treatment then you should be properly evaluated again. This could be due to resistant recurrent depression. Drugs like Lamotrigine can be added to your prescription for resistant depression symptoms.
